Google unveiled its Pixel 10 Pro lineup at its annual event in New York on Wednesday. The launch shifted attention from hardware improvements to artificial intelligence, underscoring the company’s strategy to redefine the smartphone experience.
The event featured celebrity appearances, including Jimmy Fallon and the Jonas Brothers, who demonstrated real-world AI applications. This approach marked a clear attempt to broaden mainstream consumer appeal.
The Pixel 10 Pro introduces an AI “coach” in the camera app to guide users toward better photos. Another feature automatically surfaces relevant information, such as flight details, during calls with airlines. Real-time translation for phone calls was also highlighted, positioning the Pixel as a tool for seamless global communication.
Externally, the devices look almost identical to last year’s models. However, a telephoto lens has now been added to the base model, aligning its camera system with the premium versions.
Pricing begins at $799 for the standard device and $1,799 for the foldable edition. Despite earlier concerns over potential tariff-driven hikes, prices remain flat. Analysts noted that most AI features could function equally well on previous-generation hardware, further proving the emphasis on software rather than physical design.
Rick Osterloh, senior vice president of devices and services, declared that Google’s AI model, Gemini, offers unmatched capabilities. He emphasized the company’s ambition to build a universal AI assistant, one that can deliver practical value directly from smartphones.
Still, market share remains a challenge. While Android powers more than 80% of global smartphones, Pixel’s sales continue to lag behind Samsung and Xiaomi. Analysts suggested that this year’s strategy sought to extend the brand’s reach beyond loyal Pixel fans by stressing AI as a unique advantage.
The Pixel 10 Pro launch makes clear that Google sees AI as the future of mobile technology. Hardware upgrades exist, but software innovation drives the story. Whether this focus translates into stronger sales remains the critical question for the months ahead.
