TradeTech Forum 2024: World Economic Forum Pioneers Technological Revolution in Global Trade

The World Economic Forum is set to launch the pioneering TradeTech Forum 2024, marking the first-ever dedicated assembly focused on integrating cutting-edge technologies into global trade practices. With the aim of revolutionising international trade, this landmark event will convene 300 influential figures including ministers, business leaders, trade experts, and representatives from civil society. Hosted in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Economy and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, the forum will take place concurrently with the World Trade Organization 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) in Abu Dhabi.

Driving Technological Innovation in Global Trade

Under the leadership of Børge Brende, President of the World Economic Forum, the TradeTech Forum seeks to invigorate global trade by harnessing the potential of emerging technologies. Emphasising the pressing need to adapt to technological advancements, Brende highlights the forum’s role in accelerating technology deployment to propel a trade recovery and mitigate the effects of ‘slowbalisation’.

Discussions at the TradeTech Forum will build upon the momentum generated at the Forum’s Annual Meeting 2024 in Davos, focusing on strategies to modernise the trade system to meet contemporary demands. Key areas of interest include investment facilitation, e-commerce, and sustainable trade, reflecting a commitment to a rules-based global trade framework.

Charting the Course for Future Trade Practices

The TradeTech Forum agenda features a diverse array of panel discussions, workshops, and roundtables aimed at exploring how technology can foster sustainability, inclusivity, and development in global trade. Special attention will be given to assisting companies in navigating regulatory requirements, enhancing supply chain resilience, and addressing trade finance gaps, particularly for small businesses and developing economies.

This collaborative initiative not only complements ongoing negotiations at MC13 but also underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in driving meaningful trade reforms. Moreover, the TradeTech Fair will provide a platform for showcasing innovative trade solutions and fostering collaborative networks to propel the global adoption of trade technology.

Media representatives accredited for MC13 are invited to participate in the TradeTech Forum sessions, which will kick off with an opening plenary accessible to both media and the public via livestream. With a focus on shaping a smarter, cleaner, and more inclusive future for global trade, the TradeTech Forum promises to be a pivotal event in advancing the integration of technology into international trade practices.
