Quantum Tech Research Sees SSIR and IISc Bangalore Join Hands

Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) has joined forces with the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to establish a groundbreaking Quantum Technology Lab, aimed at pushing the frontiers of advanced quantum technologies.

Details on the Collaboration

Headed by Mayank Shrivastava, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering at IISc, this state-of-the-art facility is poised to become a beacon of innovation, offering manpower training, fostering collaboration with quantum research institutions both national and international, and most significantly, focusing on building indigenous quantum technologies. This quantum leap is set to firmly position India’s research and technological advancements on the global stage.

Balajee Sowrirajan, CVP & MD of SSIR, shared the vision behind this pioneering partnership, emphasising that the Quantum Technology Lab will be a catalyst for quantum breakthroughs. It will empower a skilled workforce, nurture collaborative innovation, bolster national competitiveness, and propel India’s reputation as a hub for quantum innovation and excellence.

The lab’s mission extends beyond research; it also aims to enhance employability and career prospects for students pursuing higher education in physics, engineering, computer science, and mathematics. They will benefit from hands-on training, research experience, and skill development in the realm of quantum technologies. Additionally, researchers and scientists in the quantum field will have access to advanced infrastructure and cutting-edge resources, fostering groundbreaking discoveries and contributions to the field.

Creating Inclusive Learning

The lab will open its doors to faculty members from colleges and institutions, facilitating research endeavours that might otherwise be constrained by financial barriers. The Quantum Technology Lab will be equipped with a host of cutting-edge features, including cryogenic control chips with qubits, single photon sources, detectors, and solutions to address reliability challenges in quantum technologies. This interdisciplinary platform will be a breeding ground for innovation, industry collaboration, and the exchange of knowledge. It not only advances scientific understanding but also strengthens India’s position in the global arena, harnessing quantum technologies for socioeconomic growth.

The collaboration between SSIR and IISc signifies a momentous stride towards establishing India as a frontrunner in quantum technology, nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and providing a platform for researchers and students to shape the future of quantum technologies.
