India Kicks Off Global Technology Summit 2025 to Shape Future Tech Governance

The ninth edition of the Global Technology Summit (GTS) commenced on Friday in New Delhi, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivering the inaugural address. Organised jointly by Carnegie India and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the summit serves as India’s premier platform for dialogues on geo-technology and global digital cooperation.

Held from April 10 to 12, GTS 2025 carries the theme “Sambhavna”—a Hindi term meaning possibilities—and will spotlight how emerging technologies can accelerate inclusive growth, enhance digital governance frameworks, and foster robust cross-border collaborations.

The opening day will also see remarks by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, further underlining India’s focus on resilient innovation, economic digitisation, and tech-led development.

Global Participation and Strategic Dialogue

This year’s edition features over 40 public sessions comprising ministerial conversations, keynote speeches, expert panels, and strategic discussions. The Summit brings together more than 150 thought leaders, policy-makers, technologists, and academics from over 40 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Brazil, UAE, the Philippines, Nigeria, and the European Union.

Topics on the agenda range from AI governance, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data protection to space technology, digital norms, and cooperation across the Global South. The discussions are expected to address the challenges of balancing innovation with regulation and ensuring global tech equity.

Empowering Youth and Shaping Future Policy

In a unique initiative, the GTS Young Ambassadors Programme will provide a platform for students and young professionals across India to participate in key policy discussions. These emerging voices will contribute directly to shaping future narratives around responsible AI use, ethical data sharing, and inclusive digital development.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is scheduled to speak on Saturday, alongside other key global representatives, including German Ambassador to India and Bhutan Philipp Ackermann and Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green.

As geopolitical interests increasingly converge around digital sovereignty and emerging technologies, GTS 2025 aims to position India as a global leader in shaping the ethical, inclusive, and strategic direction of tomorrow’s tech landscape.
