Canadian Airlines is about to launch a direct flight from Calgary to Tokyo Narita in 2023. The airline announced today the expansion from its hub at Calgary International Airport. The WestJet will be the only flight to operate from Calgary to Tokyo and this launch will be considered, the first venture into Asia. The three-weekly service will resume next year on 30th April.

The flight will be operated by the airline’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Each of them has 7 in its fleet and has a total of 320 passengers in a 3-class configuration.276 in economy class, 28 in premium economy class, and 16 in business class. It is the right time to launch the new route as Japan has currently reopened to international tourists after the COVID-19 situation. WestJet will not face any kind of competition on any of these airways, except for Calgary to London Heathrow, which is also operated by Air Canada.

The flight will depart from Calgary at 18:55, and arrive in Tokyo at 20:00. Later the Flight WS81 will depart Tokyo at 22:00, and arrive in Calgary at 16:00. WestJet declared some changes to its network, considering its long-haul flying from Toronto and boosting its intercontinental network from Calgary. These changes will bring lots of long-haul destinations from Calgary to other 8 countries in the next year.

The countries are Barcelona (BCN), Edinburgh (EDI), London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), Paris (CDG), Rome (FCO), Dublin (DUB), and Tokyo (NRT). These countries have different schedules as planned by WestJet airlines. Some will fly 3 days a week, some will schedule 7 days a week, and some flights fly 5 days a week. WestJet is focusing on increasing its capacity by more than 25% in 2023. The Chief Executive Officer of WestJet, Alexis von Hoensbroech, celebrated the news with excitement.
