Victory Calls for William Byron as NASCAR’s Daytona 500 Announces its Winner

During the NASCAR Cup Series in 2023 wins leader won his first Great American Race. This was the very first Daytona 500 win for Hendrick Motorsports, the impressive NASCAR team commemorating its 40th anniversary, from the year 2014, and this triumph coincides with the 40th anniversary of Hendrick finishing its first NASCAR race.

Byron, although he was a little behind The Big One from finishing first, he grabbed his chance when The Big One still had eight laps left. Byron also succeeds Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who was the winner of 2023’s Daytona 500 in overtime.

After the restart on Lap 197 of 200, and while finishing the final lap, there was a crash that broke out behind Byron, which made him cross the line under white flag. Due to this, he circled the Daytona track once more not being sure if he was the winner.

“Did we win it? Did we win it?” Byron screamed in confusion as he stepped out followed by his great victory, ending Hendrick’s nie-year losing streak, due to the caution flag. Rudy Fugle, the crew chief then announced the sweet result and confirmed the victory.

“Well, no one told me. And Rudy was crying on the radio, so I was like, ‘Dude, I hope he’s crying for good reason,’” Byron joked after he was asked about his confused look after his grand win. “I guess he was a ball of emotion there, and so I was like ‘Did we actually win or not?’”
