Rafael Nadal Wins His 13th French Open Title!

Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djpokovic and earned his 20th Grand Slam Title. Known as the King of Clay, Nadal gave one of the finest performances of his career on Sunday night to add another feather on his hat. Tennis fans were definitely in for a treat at the prospect of an epic clash but the match was mostly one-sided and Nadal managed to win quite easily with a score of 6-0 6-2 7-5 under the closed roof of Court Philippe Chatrier.

Rafael admitted on Sunday that the prospect of him winning his 13th French open and more than that making a record equalling 20 Slam title win was very bleak to him.

In the official statement Nadal said:

Congrats to Novak for another great tournament. Sorry for today. We’ve played plenty of times together- one day one wins, another the other. After all the things I’ve been through in my career with injuries. I could not have done it without my family.

Nadal also added that this year specially has been very tough on him and winning this title meant everything to him that too in this city where he’s said to enjoy a different kind of love.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, this epic match could only be witnessed by 1000 people, but the crowd managed to motivate the players well enough.

According to various experts, Novak was expected to have an easy win but Nadal turned the tables right from the beginning and dominated the game with a strong lead right from the beginning. Novak did have a comeback in the second set but Nadal did not leave his momentum throughout the game.

Nadal now shares the 20 Slam title win with the iconic Roger Federer. Djpokovic who is also World Number 1 has 17 Slam titles. This was Nadal and Djpokovic’s 56th meeting where Nadal outshined which also meant that this was Djpokovic’s first loss in the entire year.
