Houston: The consulate General of India has arranged several events across Texas for Texan to celebrate 5th International Yoga Day on 21st June 2019.

The capital of Texas, Austin celebrating from the stately State Capitol building since June 15th evening, which was attended by over a 1000 yoga enthusiasts from all fields and professions. 

Main attraction is the event organized on Friday at Houston which is on the sumptuous green lawns of Midtown Park at 6pm, In this event Yoga experts are set to performing major ‘Asaanas’ for Texan along with various ‘Breathing techniques’ and most important part of yoga ‘Meditation’. These demonstrations also include a special session for children. The event will end up at 7.30pm with colorful Holi celebration.

Sharad Amin, who is a Coordinator of Houston’s yoga events thanks the cooperation from Houston’s yoga community in celebrating IDY for the past four years. Amin who is also strong believer in Yoga said “Yoga is a precious gift given by Indian sages to humanity”

 “Each one should teach one, the health benefits of yoga as it is key to well-being,” he further added.

The consulate of India with the help of other groups has arranged many events throughout the state.

Dr. Anupam Ray, Consul General of India stated “We (India) export… well-being of mind and body… we do not export hatred or say that my religion is better than yours… what we say is that yoga is good for mind, body and heart”.

“Houston has a vibrant Yoga family and there are many Yoga centers from different parts of the world. It is an opportunity to remove the duality and promote the spirit of oneness between mind and body, thought and action and man and nature,” he added.

Along with Houston the yoga day will be observed in San Antonio on 21st June at 6:00 pm at the Riverwalk Mall and in Dallas on 22nd June, Saturday at 8:00 am at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Plaza.

The concept of the Yoga Day was introduced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014.
