Paul Kiecker is appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, to be the Administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Mr. Kicker will get the position as soon as Carmen Rottenburg departs from the position and the federal services altogether after serving the company for more than two decades.
Kiecker is working in FSIS since 1988 and started as a food inspector and was lately working as deputy administrator in 2018 and acting administrator till January ’19.
“Ensuring the safety of America’s food supply is USDA’s most important responsibility, and one that Carmen carried out with dedication and vision. I know she will continue her passion for food safety in the private sector,” said Secretary Perdue. “Carmen is a true public servant and ushered in an era of modernization at the Food Safety and Inspection Service. This mission and drive will continue and advance with Paul Kiecker in his new leadership role. USDA’s food safety team is the best in the world and works tirelessly to safeguard the food we serve our families every single day.”
Carmen Rottenburg led the agency from the later-half of 2017 while she assumed the role of administrator since May of 2018. Carmen was leading the company in targeting foodborne illness and took initiative for the same. U.S.D.A. deputy undersecretary of food safety, Mindy Brashears, in an official statement thanked Ms. Rottenburg for her insightful leadership and exceptional services. She also said that she is positive about the change in leadership.
