Employees at the software giant Microsoft will now be given the option to permanently work from home if they wish to, with this however they will have to give up their office space. It is till now the largest firm to extend such provisions which had come into place because of the pandemic. At the present moment, all employees are working from home and Microsoft feels that at least till January there is no scope of offices opening again.
But when they do open, it won’t be compulsory for all to come. The Microsoft Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan said in a note to employees obtained by the tech news outlet:
“The pandemic has challenged all of us to think, live and work in new ways.”
Microsoft says that it would like to balance the comfort and the work of everyone working there. They say they are adapting the new culture because that is the only way to go from here. Although, all employees shall not be permitted to work from home, such as the lab workers or those who need to train other employees. Others who are eligible to work remotely will need prior permission from their managers and will only be allowed to spend less than 50% of their week outside of work. Without taking permission from the firm.
This company founded by Bill Gates has the notion that with the help of this new culture, the employees would be able to easily relocate themselves in and out of the United States. A change in salary however will take place depending on where the employee shifts and the firm promises to cover the cost of the home offices that the employees shall bear but says that it shall not pay for the relocation expenses incurred by the employees.
A lot of other tech firms including Facebook have allowed a permanent work from home facilities and in times to come a lot of firms might also see such a change in the trends.
