Oscars 2021 to be Held in Person and Not Virtually

The Oscars academy recently did a walkthrough on all the options available to conduct the prestigious ceremony and reports suggest that out of the multiple options available, they felt that nothing could replace the in-person one.

Like every year, the 93rd Academy Awards will be conducted in the city of Los Angeles’ at the normal venue of the Dolby Theatre on the 25th of April. Reports earlier suggested that a virtual mode like that of the Emmy’s was being considered.

The academy has however decided to delay this ceremony by a period of eight weeks. The usual sitting of the Dolby Theatre is 3,400 people but this year if it will be reduced is something that remains to be seen.

The 2020 Oscars were carried out in the traditional mode only while almost all other award shows preferred to meet over zoom for ensuring the safety of everyone.

Oscars are undoubtedly the biggest night for Hollywood and they were originally scheduled for 28th of February but taking into account the pandemic and the current situation, it was best though to extend it to April in order to give an opportunity to all the filmmakers who were unable to release their films. This way a flexibility will be seen and the eligibility period will also be extended thus opening opportunities and saving the filmmakers from being penalised.

Another drastic change that has been implemented by this prestigious academy is the movie theatre rule. It has been suspended for a year as for now given the fact that all theatres in the Los Angles have been closed since mid-march and no date for their re-opening has been suggested till now.

Prior to this, it was required that each film in order to be eligible for the Oscar had to complete at least a seven-day run in the theatres of Los Angles.

What safety protocols shall be in place for all the people attending the award show are still unclear as of now and no clarification has been released on the same. No official comments have been made by either the Academy officials or the people at the Dolby Theatre so it remains to be seen how this night turns out to be!
