Italian luxury fashion brand Slowear has officially joined Italy’s growing B Corp community, gaining recognition for its sustainable business practices. The certification highlights the company’s commitment to environmental and social governance, marking a shift in luxury fashion toward more responsible and ethical practices.
The four-year journey to certification has allowed Slowear to address significant challenges in the luxury fashion sector. With a focus on product durability and ethical sourcing, Slowear sets itself apart as an advocate for environmental sustainability, countering fast fashion’s tendency toward disposable products. Their approach emphasizes quality, longevity, and transparency—values that are increasingly in demand among luxury consumers.
Under the leadership of CEO Piero Braga, appointed in May 2023, Slowear’s efforts reflect a broader shift in the luxury industry. By updating its bylaws to become a Benefit Company in 2022, Slowear ensured its business strategy aligns with social impact goals. The brand’s commitment to sustainable sourcing practices includes using wool exclusively from certified animal welfare farms, a move that has proven both challenging and impactful in setting a standard for ethical sourcing.
“Becoming a Certified B Corp in the fashion industry is proof of a company’s dedication to transparency in its supply chain, manufacturing, and community impact,” said Anna Puccio, Managing Director of B Lab Italy. “I congratulate Slowear on their achievement and for their commitment to continuous improvement.”
Italy now boasts over 300 B Corporations, collectively generating more than 15 billion euros in revenue, reflecting the growing trend of businesses moving toward sustainable practices. Slowear’s certification arrives as European regulators contemplate new environmental reporting requirements for fashion brands. The B Corp status gives Slowear an advantage, showcasing their proactive approach to sustainability while preparing for potential future regulations.
As Slowear operates across major fashion cities such as Milan, London, and Tokyo, maintaining B Corp standards at scale will present both operational challenges and opportunities. The ongoing certification process ensures the brand upholds stringent benchmarks across worker conditions, community impact, and environmental performance, setting an inspiring example for the luxury sector.
By prioritizing environmental accountability and responsible practices, Slowear’s B Corp status marks a critical milestone in the luxury industry’s sustainability journey, paving the way for other premium brands to reconsider traditional profit models in favor of a more sustainable approach.
