Beyoncé’s new single, “Break My Soul” is doing its part in breaking the internet. It was released early on Monday and it is all everyone has been talking about.
The dance track marked the return of the singer that the BeyHive (the name by which her devout fan base is known as) was anticipating for a long time. It has a very house music vibe, and it took the fans by surprise.
Beyoncé sings “You won’t break my soul,” in the chorus along with lyrics that lets everyone know she’s fully aware of the power she holds over her fans and the world. “Imma let down my hair/’Cause I lost my mind,” she sings. “Bey is back and I’m sleeping real good at night/The queens in the front and the doms in the back/Ain’t takin’ no flicks but the whole clique snapped.”
This also marks the reunion of Queen Bey with bounce music legend Big Freedia. The last time the two appeared together were on Beyoncé’s hit 2016 song “Formation.”
“This is a real surreal feeling to be back on the track with Queen Beyonce once again,” Big Freedia said in a tweet. “I’m so honored to be a part of this special moment. I am forever grateful to my lord. Someone please catch me.”
On Monday, the superstar had announced that the song would be released at midnight. However, the superstar surprised their fans with an early drop on Tidal, a streaming service that is owned by her husband, Jay-Z the famous rapper.
“Break My Soul” is the first single off of her forthcoming “Renaissance” album which is set to come out on July 29. It was unclear whether the country songs will appear as a separate album, or as part of the first edition of “Renaissance.” In 2020, Beyoncé’ released the single “Black Parade” in honor of Junteenth. The Grammy winner’s last visual album, “Black Is King,” released that same year as a companion project to her curated album “The Lion King: The Gift.” She voiced the character of Nala in Disney’s 2019 “Lion King” remake. Her last full-length album was “Lemonade” in 2016.
