CHIBA – From Friday Skymark Airlines Inc had begun its first regular international flight, connecting Narita airport near Tokyo and Saipan, as the airline continues reform efforts.
The new service between Narita and Saipan is available from 29NOV19, Boeing 737-800 aircraft will serve this route on daily basis and reservation are from Friday 01NOV19
Skymark Airlines which is the sole carrier to run direct flights between Japan and the island will operate one round-trip flight a day.
The carrier is looking to boost businesses overseas, as it has been pushing ahead with restructuring after filing for court protection in 2015 in fierce competition with low-cost carriers.
The airline reported record sales for the fiscal year through March 2019 and last month filed for the relisting of its shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The revamp operations of Skymark, established in 1996, have been supported by its sponsors, including ANA Holdings Inc, parent of Japanese airline All Nippon Airways Co, and equity firm Integral Corp.
Additionally Skymark earlier said the new service between Narita and Saipan, and between Narita and Nagoya (Chubu) will begin by the end of December. The regular service between Narita and Saipan will be once daily, with a flight time of approximately three and a half hours, while service between Narita and Nagoya will be twice weekly.
Earlier this year in a press release Skymark said they look forward to offering customers with the experience to explore the wonders of the CNMI. The airline said this will accelerate travel demand and mutual exchange between Japan and the CNMI.
Last March 22, Skymark made a historic touchdown on Saipan with a chartered B737-800 plane carrying 173 passengers, making it the first Japanese carrier to fly directly to Saipan since Japan Airlines withdrew from the CNMI in 2005.
