A Chinese that rocket was carrying lunar samples back to our planet has for the first time in almost a span of 45 years been able to dock with a spaceship that orbits around the lunar planet moon.
This was a part of the Chinese Chnag’e-5 project and has deemed itself successful. The country’s space agency has also made the official announcement on the same.
The cargo capsule of the lander has been named after a mythical Chinese moon goddess. It docked with the spaceship that was orbiting the moon at around 5:42 in the morning according to the Chinese standard time.
Approximately, thirty minutes later a container that had roughly 2 kilograms or 4.4 pounds of rocks was moved closer to the orbiter. A photograph that was taken by the orbiter of the ascent stage rocket approaching for a rendezvous has also been released by the Chinese National Space Administration.
This capsule that is carrying the rock samples is expected to reach earth in the middle of December in the Inner Mongolia region. If all goes as planned and China succeeds in bringing the rocks to earth, it will become the third country in the world to do so after the United States of America and the former Soviet Union.
These samples will be fresh as opposed to the last ones that were obtained by the scientists of the Soviet Luna probe in the year 1976.
The major hope that the scientists have from these rock samples is to uncover the mysteries that surround moon and gain considerably more knowledge about the origination of moon and at the same time about the volcanic activities that take place on the surface.
This rocket Chang’e-5 had been launched 12 days ago from the Chinese spaceport Wenchang that is on the Hainan island. It reached the surface of the moon on Tuesday and started to do its designated job of collecting the rock samples and then blast off from the surface on Thursday.
It remains to be seen as to if China is truly able to accomplish something from this mission but the docking is an appreciable start.
