Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of UK, earlier yesterday unveiled a plan to start a new green revolution in the country which would include a complete ban on petrol as well as diesel cars by the year 2030.
U.K also plans on taking measures for carbon capture and become a world leader in that arena. For the same purpose, the government has mobilised huge funds, nearing 12 billion pounds for a 10-point plan. Moreover, if this plan works it will bring into its ambit 250,000 new jobs.
The significance of this plan foes even further as the U.K even prepares to co-host two major environmental programmes-
- Climate Ambition Summit
- UN COP 26
Both of these will held in the later part of next year.
Johnson also issued a statement in which he stated that although this year has taken a different path than any of them could have anticipated, U.K is now looking towards the future and is waiting to seize any opportunity that will help them build back greener and stronger.
He also said that the recovery of the planet and the economy must go hand-in-hand if we are all to prosper. He also said that this is a very ambitious project and has the power to transform that way that people live.
He further emphasized on the need for collective action, as only when every country shall co-operate and take action, will such a plan be successful.
Electrical vehicles are the future and U.K is planning for a complete shift I that direction for the betterment of all. This will also make U.K the first out of the G7 countries to have decarbonised the road transportation system. ‘
Mass scale production of electrical vehicles is the first aim towards the realisation of this plan. The private sector is also being encouraged to invest in this new venture and Johnson will hold a virtual roundtable meet with them in order to discuss the same. Preferably, with the help of grants, these vehicles will be placed at lower prices in order to encourage more and more people to make this transition.
