Africa 2020 Winners Announced at the World Travel Awards

The World Travel Awards announced their Africa winners for 2020. This prestigious award recognizes and rewards excellence in travel and tourism. The subsequent results are the product of a year-long search for the world’s top travel and tourism brands. The victors were declared after the ballets of renowned tourism industry professionals and the public were diligently counted. The announcement of this global initiative-based award winners comes at a time when the world tourism industry is reeling from the pandemic induced restrictions and losses.

The Africa 2020 Tourist Attraction Winners

Kenya was voted ‘Africa’s Leading Destination’. Famed for its serene palm-fringed beaches, savannah grasslands and myriad wildlife diversity, Kenya is a traveler’s paradise. Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya was voted ‘Africa’s Leading Business and Travel Destination’. The Kenyatta International Conference Center was named ‘Africa’s Leading Meeting and Conference Center’.Africa’s Leading Festival and Event Destination’ category was conceded to Cape Town, while the majestic Table Mountain received an accolade for being ‘Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction’. ‘Africa’s Leading City’ award was bestowed upon Durban.

Victors in the Hospitality and Airlines Sectors

The Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club emerged victorious in the category of hospitality, gaining the title of ‘Africa’s Leading Hotel’.  Saxon Hotel: Villas and Spa bagged the award for ‘Africa’s Leading Boutique Hotel’. Ethiopian Airlines was voted the as ‘Africa’s Leading Airline’ and ‘Africa’ Leading Airpor’t award went to Cape Town International Airport.

Other winners include Serengeti National Park(‘Africa’s Leading National Park’); Thanda Island, Tanzania (‘Africa’s Leading Luxury Island’); Shambala Private Game Reserve, South Africa (‘Africa’s Leading Private Game Reserve’); and The Oberoi, Marrakech (‘Morocco’s Leading Hotel Suite’).

Graham Cooke, the Founder of the World Travel Awards was quoted saying, “The World Travel Awards 2020 programme received a record number of votes cast by the public. This shows that the appetite for travel and tourism has never been stronger and bodes well for the industry’s future as the global recovery begins.” He also added a word of praise for the tourism industry for showing unprecedented resilience at such critical times. He believes that the tourism sector will revive soon after the global health situation improves.
