Australian Open: Novak Djokovic Swept Pass Milos Raonic on Tuesday Night

Novak Djokovic is a seven-time champion of Australian Open. He won the quarter-finals against Milos Raonic on Tuesday night to set a much hyped 50th showdown with Roger Federer in the Australian Open semi-finals.

This will be his 37th Grand Slam semi-final – his 8th at Melbourne Park. He was at his best for the first two sets before biding his time to win the game at 6-4 6-3 7-6(1) against number 32 seed, Milos Raonic.

This was Djokovic and Raonic’s 10th career meeting. The world No.2 all the way ensured that the match ends in the same fashion it did the last 9 times- all settled in his favour.

Roanic was struggling with a string of injuries throughout the 14 events he contested last season.

The only event which seemed interesting throughout the clash was Djokovic struggling with his contact lenses. He had to take a medical break in between set. He even apologised for it.

About his vision predicament, Djokovic said “I apologise to Milos again. It was not something you see often. It was not a changeover moment. It was not intentional or tactical, just something I had to do. Those few games I couldn’t see much and had to change those lenses.

“I felt great on the court. Thought I was very focused in the first couple of sets, one break was enough each set. Quite comfortable serving, that was very encouraging serving, I thought that would be two key elements in the game – the return, get him moving around the court and secondly, how efficiently I’d hit my spots on the court … It was a great performance.”

His clash with Federer is much awaited and is supposed to be a real deal. He has a record of 26-23 against Federer which shall boost his confidence.
