Western Australia Tourism Hits Historic Record with 1 Million International Visitors

Western Australia has officially shattered its previous travel records by welcoming 1.024 million international visitors throughout the year ending October 2025. Consequently, this milestone marks a total recovery from pandemic-era declines as the state led the nation in international tourism growth. This surge surpassed all pre-pandemic levels and national projections while simultaneously beating the previous high of 996,000 visitors.

Strategic marketing played a massive role in this historic achievement because the “Walking On A Dream” campaign captured global attention. Famous figures like Daniel Ricciardo promoted local road trips, which gave Western Australia a massive competitive edge over other destinations. Additionally, blockbuster events like the Bledisloe Cup and WWE: Crown Jewel attracted thousands of passionate overseas fans to the region. These events effectively turned the world’s eyes toward Perth while driving significant economic activity across the state.

Air travel capacity acted as a vital engine for this growth since aviation links now connect Western Australia to twenty global cities. Twenty-four international airlines operate routes into the state, so international flight capacity reached 131% of 2019 levels. Meanwhile, cruise tourism surged to 160% of pre-COVID figures because more travelers chose sea routes to explore the coastline. These connections simplified travel for millions of eager holidaymakers and made the region more accessible than ever before.

This tourism boom significantly strengthens the local economy while supporting over 120,000 vital jobs for Western Australian residents. Moreover, 30,000 tourism and hospitality businesses are currently thriving due to the consistent influx of international and interstate guests. The Cook Government continues to prioritize these diverse economic sectors by expanding aviation links and investing in Aboriginal tourism. As a result, the visitor economy grows faster every single month and sets a new standard for the nation.

The future looks incredibly bright for the local landscape as Western Australia achieved full recovery well ahead of other states. Tourism Minister Reece Whitby called this a phenomenal result that proves the state’s global brand carries immense weight. Strong trade partnerships definitely helped restore industry strength while preparing the state for a decade of sustained growth.
