Assassin’s Creed Gets a Live-Action Reboot on Netflix with Top Creators

A live-action Assassin’s Creed series is officially in development, with Netflix confirming the news recently. The show will adapt Ubisoft’s globally popular gaming franchise, marking the first time it’s been turned into a TV series. This move highlights Netflix’s continued push into video game adaptations.

The original Assassin’s Creed game launched in 2007. Set during the Crusades, it introduced players to a hidden war between the Assassins and the Templars. Over 18 years, the franchise has released 14 main games, numerous spin-offs, and sold more than 230 million copies worldwide. Each entry connects through a shared timeline, making it a rich source for long-form storytelling.

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed live-action series has faced multiple delays since it was first proposed in 2020. It has now been greenlit with an experienced team. Roberto Patino, known for Sons of Anarchy and Westworld, will serve as showrunner. David Wiener, from Halo and Fear the Walking Dead, is also on board.

Plot and casting details remain under wraps. However, the series will follow the core conflict between Assassins and Templars. It will feature characters reliving ancestral memories through a device called the Animus. This structure allows the story to explore different time periods and locations across the world.

The most recent game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, was released earlier this year. Set in feudal Japan, it received critical acclaim. Its success helped restore Ubisoft’s momentum after years of inconsistent releases. The French developer recently secured a $1.25 billion investment from Chinese giant Tencent to expand its biggest franchises.

This Netflix Assassin’s Creed adaptation joins a growing list of video game series and films in production. The platform has already found success with animated shows like Castlevania and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. A live-action Splinter Cell series is also in development. Meanwhile, rival studios are working on their own projects. A Zelda movie is due in 2027, with a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie expected in 2026.

With high expectations, a passionate fanbase, and a strong creative team, the Assassin’s Creed live-action series could become a milestone in video game storytelling on screen. Although no release date has been announced, anticipation is already building.
