61 sickened across five provinces in salmonella outbreak tied to mini pastries

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for Sweet Cream mini pastries due to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 61 people in five provinces.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), cases have been reported in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick, with 17 requiring hospitalisation. The affected individuals range from three to 88 years old.

The pastries were distributed to various locations, including bakeries, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, retirement homes, and catered events.

The recall applies to the following products:

• Sweet Cream “Mini Patisserie,” 4kg boxes — UPC 8 058302 730028, with all best-before dates from 17 June 2025 to 15 November 2025.

• Sweet Cream “Mini Patisserie Tray A,” 1kg boxes — UPC 8 058302 730004, with all best-before dates from 17 June 2025 to 15 November 2025.

• Sweet Cream “Mini Patisserie Tray B,” 1kg boxes — UPC 8 058302 730011, with all best-before dates from 17 June 2025 to 15 November 2025.

Consumers are advised to discard or return any recalled products.

“While most people recover from salmonella without treatment, it can lead to severe illness and hospitalisation,” the CFIA stated. Vulnerable groups include young children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of salmonella infection include chills, fever, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and headaches. These typically appear within six to 72 hours of exposure and last four to seven days.
