The facility, spanning over 4,100 square meters, includes both office and workshop spaces, with the capacity to accommodate 250 personnel. Strategically located at the Oilfields Supply Center, this advanced center centralises McDermott’s pipeline development and qualification expertise into a single hub.
Mike Sutherland, McDermott’s Senior Vice President for Offshore Middle East, emphasised the significance of the new facility, calling it a springboard for advancing pipeline fabrication and qualification processes. “The centralisation of our expertise will springboard the development of world-leading pipeline fabrication and qualification processes and technologies,” Sutherland noted. He highlighted how this move enhances operational efficiency, reduces costs, and provides predictability in performance for global projects, further solidifying McDermott’s leadership in subsea pipeline solutions.
The center is equipped with state-of-the-art features that position it as a leader in industry innovation. It includes advanced capabilities for welding, pipeline coating, non-destructive testing, and production simulation. The facility also boasts vessel simulation technology, such as a full S-Lay lineup, a firing line simulation area, and a J-Lay rotating table for vertical pipelay. These technologies allow real-time remote intervention for McDermott’s pipelay vessel fleet and provide a controlled environment for training and operational safety enhancements.
