International tourism has been slow for quite some time now and in most countries only travel bubbles with a few countries are being allowed for travel. However, tourism is a big part of the economy of the countries and therefore EU has come up with an accessible system to benefit all and boost the travel by the summer months.
Summer months in most European nations are extremely liked by tourists and therefore maximum tourists are seen in the region. EU has put forward a new suggestion keeping in mind the slow travel and the travel restrictions- it is to allow travelling of people from different regions but with certification.
The vaccination drives are on in almost all countries of the world and this recommendation has been made in lieu of that. A digital green certificate would be enough for the travelling purpose and would be readily available to the travellers as well the authorities to check. Some nations however including France is a little sceptical about the decision given the fact that the young generations that travel the most are last in line to get the vaccinations in almost all countries of the world.
With private access of the vaccination, this policy could be highly effective but as of now most countries are giving out vaccinations by a government run program. Some nations also feel that EU has a free movement policy and to put the stamp of certification somewhat goes against the policy.
It is also a matter of concern as to which vaccinations will be allowed and the certificates will be valid given the fact that different countries have different vaccinations. For example, Russia is giving out Sputnik V and a vaccination manufactured by China. Both these vaccines however have not been approved by EU; will there certificates then be valid?
This is as yet just a proposal and will only be implemented if all the countries in EU and the European Parliament agree to it and do not have concerns over the policy and its implementation.
