The Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has added yet another feather to his cap, by becoming the fastest batsman in history to reach 12,000 runs in the One-Day Internationals, that is, ODI format.
This milestone was achieved by the skipper in the final match of the series that had been going on against Australia. This particular match was held at Manuka Oval in Australia.
The record prior to this, was held by an Indian batsman Sachin Tendulakar who took a total of 300 ODI innings to reach this landmark. Virat Kohli has completed this in a total of 242 innings and a total of 251 matches to beat the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and claim this title.
Kohli is said to be the dominator in this particular form of cricket and has always been consistent. His average for the ODI’s is close to 60 runs which is considered to be an almost impossible feat.
The third in this list is an Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting who took a total of 314 innings to score a total of 12,000 runs in the ODI format.
In addition to this, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli has also played a total of 86 Tests in which he scored 7,240 runs and alongside 82 T20s in which his score was 2,794 runs. He is the ninth Indian cricketer to have made more than 250 appearances in the ODI.
A look at his overall runs tell us that across all formats that he has played in, a total of 221,000 runs have been made by him which is commendable indeed.
The Indian player is of 32 years of age and before his match with Australia he had a total of 11,977 runs and soon reached the landmark after having arrived at the crease.
Although, Virat Kohli shined, India lost two consecutive matches against Australia, managing to win only the last one. The series went to Australia and now the T20s are underway, it remains to be seen whether India gets that glory or will Australia continue with its winning streak!
