Google Apps Recover After Their Outage

As per Downdetector.com, the outage tracking website, Alphabet Inc’s Google was down for thousands of users on Monday. Google search was not the only service that was impacted by the outage. The outage also impacted a range of other Google products such as Google Photos, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Duo, etc. The services seem to be up and running now

As per Google’s own app status dashboard there is no reflection of an outage. Google has not yet issued a statement about the outage. There were more than 40,000 incidents of people reporting issues with the largest search engine of the world, according to Downdetector. The way it works is that it tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources including errors submitted by the users manually on its platform.

Out of these reported incidents, more than 30,000 users had indicated issues with Google in the United States alone. Almost 5,900 incidents were reported from Japan. The disruption was also present in Canada and Australia. The peak of the outage was noticed at 01:30 GMT.

During the outage, users took the opportunity to go on Twitter to mock the outage, making fun of the fact that Google search was down. The hashtag #googledown was trending on the platform.

Most users encountered a 500 error, which is an indication of a server problem. Google services seem to be back up for most users in India for now.

Following an update, Google has now acknowledged the issue and stated that a “software update issue” was the main reason behind the outage.

The company went on the record to highlight about the culprit of the issue, and apologise for the inconvenience caused by it. “We are aware of a software update issue that briefly affected availability of Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We worked hard to address the issue as quickly as possible, and that led to our services being back online now,” the company said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Microsoft Teams services were also hit by a global outage. Although the exact downtime is yet to be determined, Microsoft responded to its users via a twitter post saying that they were determined to solve the issue.
