With the rising demand for plant-based alternatives to meat, a number of companies around the world are coming with their versions of these products. Korean food companies are the latest to join the bandwagon with their own version of plant-based meat alternatives to cater to the global vegan population.
Details on this Initiative
CJ CheilJedang on Sunday announced the launch of its vegan brand- PlantTable. This initiative has been an outcome of the growing vegetarian food interest in the country and abroad. The company is set to launch two types of vegan Bibigo Dumpling products in Singapore and Australia this very month. The soybean meat replacements used in the dumplings give them a meat-like texture. This makes it almost impossible to figure out the difference. While this offline launch is scheduled for later this month, these products are already available online in Korea.
Other Offerings
Among its other vegan options, CJ is also launching a vegan version of the much-loved Kimchi. This vegan Kimchi will not use any seafood, but rather feature a vegan alternative. Company officials stated that these initial launches were just the tip of the ice-berg when it comes to the myriad varieties the brand plans to launch in the upcoming days of 2022. It also plans to break-through the largest vegan markets in the U.S and Europe by early next year. “We are planning to expand our vegan product offerings on a full scale next year, and launch vegan versions of home meal replacement products too,” said a spokesperson for CJ CheilJedang.
Another Brand Eyeing for the U.S Market
Pulmone is another food company that’s eyeing the growing plant-based nutrition market. By leveraging its expertise in tofu-making, the company is trying to diversify its soybean-based food offerings. Bulgogi- a soy-based textured vegetable protein- is one of the already existing vegan products from the brand. Ever since its launch last month, the product has garnered quite a following in the market. Pulmone has already made inroads into the U.S. This is a huge achievement for the company as the American market is considered one of the most advanced plant-based food markets in the world.
