Elena And Recruitment

“I’m fascinated by people, and I love to talk! Recruitment is an amazing job, which gives a chance to build deep, real relationships with people who you wouldn’t normally meet, and really make an impact on people’s lives”, states Elena who has been working for 9 years in recruitment, in the Medtech Industry. And it’s a job that has a huge impact, “we recruit the people that solve regulatory and compliance problems, so patients from all over the world can access lifesaving and life enhancing medical technology!” 

Elena is specialized in sourcing, supporting and recruiting experienced professionals in Quality and Regulatory Affairs, for startups, SME’s and global corporations. She has a genuine interest in MedTech innovation, is an event speaker on the impact of changing regulation on talent and is known for her deep understanding of the MedTech industry. We had the chance to sit down to an exclusive interview with her to discuss leadership, motivation, and her tips for upcoming entrepreneurs. 

The Flexible Leader 

In Elena’s opinion the most important trait of a leader is to adapt one’s leadership style to each person’s needs. For her, there is no one-style that fits all. “It’s important to be able to understand and identify when to teach, when to support, when to coach and when to let your team just run with their own ideas independently.”

On Motivation and Fear

Elena’s list of inspiration is eclectic, “I have different inspirations for different things. Historically, Queen Elizabeth I for being the first female Monarch of England. Musically, Stevie Wonder for the energy and positivity. In business, Richard Branson for being an incredible entrepreneur. As a speaker, Eric Thomas for his authenticity”. How does she deal with self doubt or fear? Elena doesn’t give up! “I just take a deep breath, tell myself there’s no other option and just push through.”

Customer Transparency is the Best

How to drive successful customer relationships? “Be clear with what you’re going to do for your customers. Do what you said you’d do and invest time into the relationship. Most people fail on the follow up and follow through.” Elena really believes in the importance of being customer centric and delivering a great service.

A Stretch Project 

Does she ever get out of her comfort zone, or does she play it safe? Recently, Elena decided to get really hands-on with a completely new type of project; managing the delivery of Elemed’s new website. “I was waaaaay out of my comfort zone,” she said, laughing.  “It was a really stretching experience, having to learn all about design and user experience. But wait till you see our promo video, it’s pretty cool.” She wouldn’t share any more information about the content, so we will have to wait and see!

Tips for Entrepreneurs

We asked Elena to reflect on her journey as a business owner so far. Sharing her tips with us,  she emphasised the importance of focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses, and just getting started.  “Starting a business is daunting for anyone, male or female. Start by doing some research, know how to position your business and understand if there is a demand for what you’re trying to offer! Once you know there’s a demand, outsource all the activities you personally don’t need to do. Get yourself some good business development training if you have no experience as this will catapult your conversions! Finally, build a strong social brand, both as a business and as an Employer, especially if you intend to recruit in the future!”
