Morocco is making major strides as a global tourism frontrunner in 2025, propelled by its unique mix of rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and modern travel infrastructure. Despite wider caution among French travellers due to economic conditions, Morocco has bucked the trend to become a top international destination—especially for holidaymakers from France.
New airline routes, luxurious hotel openings, and enhanced diplomatic ties with France have all contributed to the country’s tourism momentum. With its affordable yet immersive experiences, Morocco offers both adventure and comfort—making it a preferred getaway for those seeking proximity, value, and vibrancy.
Recent travel industry reports confirm this rising interest. According to a survey by Opinion Way, Morocco is among the most sought-after summer destinations for French tourists in 2025. Travel site Liligo also reported that over a quarter of its French users actively explored Moroccan options this season.
Essaouira and Fez Record Major Gains in Search Trends
While Marrakech remains the most visited city among French travellers, interest in alternative Moroccan destinations is rapidly growing. Essaouira, known for its beaches and artistic culture, has seen a 150% rise in searches. Fez, famed for its historic medina, recorded a 64% increase in popularity.
Travel agencies in France have also noticed a shift—38% now rank Morocco as their top-selling international destination, ahead of Tunisia and Spain. This growth is supported by rising traveller spending, with the average amount per French visitor climbing to €868 in April 2025.
New Air Routes and a FIFA Boost Shape the Outlook
To further support demand, Transavia and Morocco’s National Tourist Office have launched 14 new winter flight routes from French regional cities to Moroccan destinations. A seasonal hub in Agadir will serve as Transavia’s first outside France, adding over 130,000 seats.
Morocco’s tourism sector saw 5.7 million visitors between January and April 2025—a 23% rise year-on-year. As the country looks ahead to co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with infrastructure upgrades and luxury offerings underway, it is firmly positioned as a travel powerhouse for years to come.
