American Airlines recently announced its plans of introducing a health passport for all inbound passengers to the USA from all international destinations. The VeriFLY app has been designed for passengers to confirm their test results and access any other travel related requirements from the 23rd of January, 2021.
Health Passports through the VeriFLY App
The app has already been providing travelers with crucial information about travel windows and has effectively managed the other related queries and concerns of travelers. The VeriFLY app was released earlier to streamline check-ins and document verification. Now the airlines has decided to widen its access and implementation. This is in support of the US government’s requirement that all passengers that are aged two and older traveling to the country from any international destination test negative for COVID-19 within three calendar days of departure. Passengers can already use the VeriFLY app on flights from the US to the likes of Jamaica, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. With the app, fliers can enter their destination and upload required documentation such as proof of a negative PCR test.
Clarissa Sebastian, Managing Director of premium guest experiences and onboard products at American Airlines stated how they have tried to tackle the pandemic-induced modifications in travel regulations. Sebastian asserted, “I think we’ve had to get a lot more targeted and a lot more focused on what is it that our customers value. We’ve always felt very good about asking them and working towards those things, but I think that we’ve never been in an environment where what our customers want and need changes so fast. So, we’ve had to learn how to do that – and it’s a financially constrained environment as well – so we are being a lot more focused, listening a lot more closely and pivoting faster to make sure we meet those needs.”
Digital Initiatives as the Future of Air Travel
The VeriFLY app allows fliers to enter their destination and upload the documents needed for verification. The expansion of the app’s functionality has been undertaken to make the travel experience smoother for fliers. These digital endeavors are critical in eliminating the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic that has caused the travel industry some serious losses. Such initiative will play a seminal role in keeping travel open and rebooting the tourism sector.
