What You Ate as a Child Could Impact Your Adulthood: New Study Suggests

A study conducted on mice indicates that the food consumed during childhood could have an impact on the adult life of an individual. Therefore, if a child consumes many sweets or fats during the early childhood, it could impact him/her as an adult even if the eating habits are changed thereafter.

It could lead to an alteration in the microbiome. The study has been conducted by UC Riverside researchers and they studied the different impacts that eating habits as a child could have.

Mice were studied for the experiment but a similar pattern has also been observed in the kids following the diet of the Western culture. The number of gut bacteria have been found to significantly decrease if a lot of unhealthy food is consumed.

These microbiomes are mostly found in the intestines of individuals are highly effective in synthesizing of vitamins. They also help build a better immune system and digestive system.

For the successful conduction of this study, the mice were divided into four groups. One group was fed the healthy western diet and another was given an unhealthy western diet. Half of them were even provided with wheels in order to exercise whereas half were not given any such provision.

After the completion of three weeks, all mice were returned to the original condition which included a standard diet for everyone and no exercise provisions. Then, they were kept under observation in the laboratories for 14 weeks and then the number of bacteria that were present and absent was studied in detail.

The study also showed that the amount of exercise directly impacted the gut bacteria. Overall, the study indicated towards a need for better health patterns especially in the Western diets.

A need for some form of exercise has also been showcased by the researchers. The study done was extensive to ensure results that were viable. The researchers also stated that they want to conduct this experiment again and look at more points which could have significant impacts on the overall health.
