A man of the Indian origin who is a global health expert has been appointed as the very first Chief Executive Officer at the WHO foundation which is a new body formed with the aim of working alongside the WHO in order to combat and address the health problems that are being encountered by the people all across the globe.
Anil will take over this position beginning next year that is on the 1st of January. The main focus of Anil as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer will be to invest resources in innovative and evidence-based initiates that will work in line with the main aim of the World Health Organisation, that is, to ensure health and well-being of all.
The WHO made this announcement on its official twitter handle on the 8th of December and is all set to launch this new foundation alongside its new CEO.
This foundation will work as an independent grant-making agency and is headquartered at Geneva. It was setup in the month of May in the year 2020 itself to work alongside the WHO and help in its smooth functioning.
Prior to this, Anil Soni had been working in Viatris which is also a healthcare organisation and he was serving as their Head of Global Infectious Diseases.
The Director-General of WHO Dr Tedro Adhanom Ghebreyesus also spoke very highly about Anil Soni and mentioned that he has spent a total of two decades in the service of global health and also talked about when Anil eared his trust. It was when he and his entire team ha worked side by side at the Clinton Health Access Initiative in Ethiopia in order to expand the access and improve the already existing system of management of all the health centres.
Soni is said to possess certain unique features both in the private as well as the public domain and his leadership will prove to be very valuable to the both WHO and billions of people living across spectrums.
Anil himself claimed that he has been appointed at a time when there is a critical juncture for global public health owing to the pandemic.
