Dubai Launches Campaign to Provide Food Internationally to Assuage Hunger

The global food crisis has escalated to unclaimed heights in the midst of the pandemic. In such a scenario, the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign, launched by Dubai’s ruler, will provide food parcels for the needy across 20 countries during Ramadan.

Details about the Campaign

The program is an expansion of last year’s local ‘10 Million Meals,’ which distributed food in communities affected by the coronavirus pandemic across the country. Individuals and companies across the globe can make donations to the campaign through the dedicated website for the campaign, which will then distribute food in countries such as Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan, Pakistan, Angola, Uganda and Egypt.

Dubai’s Ruler Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum asserted, “Providing food during the holy month of Ramadan is the best we can give from the UAE to humanity.” He further added, “We will work with humanitarian organizations, companies, entities and humanitarians to join us in securing 100 million meals to bring a sense of safety to underserved homes across the world.”

Contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) will work with the UN World Food Program, Food Banking Regional Network, and local humanitarian organizations in receiving countries to distribute food for those in need. The campaign also supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to end hunger by 2030.

According to the UN records, the number of people suffering from hunger began to increase from 2015 onwards. Current estimates suggest that around 8.9% of the world’s population is suffering from the woes of hunger and undernourishment. This UN initiative in the form of a Sustainable Development Goal aims to eliminate hunger from the world. However, the UN has highlighted that on the current track, it will not be possible to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030. The condition of hunger and disease have been accelerated due to the ongoing pandemic. Thus, initiatives such as Dubai’s ‘10 Million Meals’ campaign are crucial in making a difference in the world. Such noble endeavors have received accolades from all over the world for their gracious generosity.
