The shares of BioNTech have also jumped by a whopping 8% in this very week and all of this is a result of the United Kingdom approving the vaccine and deciding to inoculate its population.
At present the founder, Ugur Sahin has refused to comment on the same.
This vaccine prepared by Pfizer and BioNTech has a proven efficacy of 95% in combating the infection. This vaccine still awaits a final approval from the U.S FDA and the European Union regulators and there is a great chance of the net worth of the founder increasing post the approval from both these giants.
While the German firm was previously concerned with fighting of cancer, the founder of BioNTech alongside his wife have been looking at the development of this vaccine since January having read a report of its seriousness very early on.
Last month in a statement, Sahin had said, that with the development of this vaccine an entire new class of molecules could be opened for the pharmaceutical field.
Sahin is of Turkish origin and is the sole shareholder of a German firm that has a claim of about 18% in the BioNTech, therefore providing him with an increased amount of capital. Last year, BioNTech had raised a total of $150 million from the U.S initial public offereings.
Sahin has now joined the Struengmann brothers of Germany in the list of the 500 richest people across the globe. These brothers own more than half of BioNTech and also backed Sahin and his wife in setting up their venture Ganymed Pharmaceuticals AG. Combined the entire fortune of these Struengmann brothers is more than $24 billion.
The early investors in this company have been very lucky and most of them now have fortunes that run in billions. The shares of BioNTech have jumped more than 250% in the current year.
