The makers of the 2018 blockbuster motion picture Wonder Woman, have announced the revised dates for its long awaited sequel’s global release. Titled Wonder Woman 1984, the famed sequel was slated to release prior to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The global health crisis has delayed its release by a significant number of months. The film features Gal Gadot reprising her titular role as Diana Price/Wonder Woman. The screenplay of the film portrays Diana Prince standing up against Maxwell Lord, a powerful businessman and a friend turned enemy, Barbara Minerva/Cheetah. Chris Pine will also reprise his role as Steve Trevor, after the prior film depicted his sudden demise. The movie will also feature Kristen Wig, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright. The screenplay for the movie was penned by Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns, and David Callaham.
Increment on Earlier Announcements
Directed by Patty Jenkins, the second installment of the DC extended Universe (DCEU), Wonder Woman 1984 will hit the screens on the 25th of December, 2020. Wonder Woman 1984 will simultaneously release in the US theatres and HBO Max. This announcement was made by the Warner Brothers Production House last week. Today, they have updated the list dates for the global release of the much anticipated superhero thriller. The film is slated for an early release in select theatres on the 16th of December.
New Global Release Dates
According to Variety, the Production House has opted to release the film earlier in the international market in a bid to avoid piracy concerns. Decisions to delay the release of the movie was also undertaken by the investors and makers of the film as theatres across the world were previously shut due to mobility restrictions and social distancing norms that were implemented globally. As theatres across the world are reopening- albeit with restricted capacities of occupancies- the makers have decided to capitalise this opportunity. The release will commence with the UK, France, Belgium, Holland, Indonesia, South Africa and others on the 16th of December. This will be followed by subsequent releases in China (18th December), and Germany (23rd December). The film will release on 25th of December in the US, Canada, and India and on the 26th in Australia and New Zealand. The last date marked on the release list was Italy (28th January, 2021).
