Parasite Gets more Screens in North-America after Stellar Performance in the Oscars

It has not even been a week since Parasite won multiple awards at the Oscars including best picture, director, international feature film and original screenplay. It also got nominated for the best editing and production design. Now we are looking at the after-effects of the Oscars for the maker and distributors of Parasite.

Parasite is already getting twice the number of screens than it was getting before. Neon, its distributor for North-America confirms. According to Variety magazine, it will get over 2,000 screens for the coming weekend.

Parasite has amassed over $130 million in the international markets. Last year, Green Book got 18 per cent of its North American total after the Oscar win.

Parasite is now the sixth highest-grossing non-English-language movie in the US behind Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Life is Beautiful, Hero, Instructions Not Included and Pan’s Labyrinth.

After getting a historic Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Parasite took $1.8 million according to the movie’s UK distributor Curzor. It broke the record for the highest opening weekend ever for a foreign-language film.

On 10th January, Parasite released in Japan and earned over 1 billion yen ($9.1 million) and have over 1 million viewers. It is the 1st Korean movie in 15 years to do so in Japan.
