Neil Young Archives: Plans to bring Music to us Virtually

The legendary musician, Neil Young Archives is one of several who have seen his planned tour held up by the pandemic coronavirus. As a substitute to that he shares some performances from home on his website, Neil Young Archives, with a help from actress Darryl Hannah, his wife.

“Because we are all at home and few of them venture out, we will try to stream from my fireplace with my lovely wife filming,” a statement reads on his site. “It will be a production at home, a few songs, a little time together …”

“We will soon announce the first one here in NYA in the Times-Contrarian and on the calendar of the Hearse Theater, as well as on social networks except Facebook,” further added to his statement. “As we previously announced, we are abandoning Facebook very, very soon, so if you are relying on FB to contact us, be prepared for a change.”

The Neil Young Archives is the continuation of a long-standing project that Young started as a series of archive releases. From that time it has become the website where users can stream almost all of Young’s recording output in high quality audio. Initially free, Young launched a subscription service in 2018 for $ 1.99 per month or $ 19.99 per year. Anyone can browse the website, but only subscribers are allowed to have full access.

Young, 74, and the group Crazy Horse, together reunited for the album, “Colorado” which dropped in October. The album was recorded in a studio near Telluride, which is 9,000 feet above sea level.

Young has performed with Crazy Horse periodically since 1969, and they recorded together for the last time in 2012.
