Italian luxury brand, Moncler is now just months away from realising its pledge of becoming absolutely carbon neutral by the year 2021. this will be found across all sites of Moncler, that is production facilities, shops, logistic centres and all offices.
This is a part of their sustainability project, where now all their sites will be a 100% carbon free. This however, is not easy to achieve, it requires a combination of efficiency programmes, renewable energy and carbon dioxide offsetting projects.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, Moncler has a “Born to Protect” plan and they set targets for the next five years. This was the first sustainability goal to have been explicitly stated by the brand since the inception of the sustainability goal in the year 2015.
This born to protect has five major aspects or pillars to it which include:
- Climate change
- Thinking circular
- Tracing and sourcing responsibly
The company also has an aim to promote diversity and include the local communities in order to foster their growth.
“At Moncler, we will embrace these challenges with humility and with ambition, searching and improving, in the knowledge that even small steps can lead to great results,” said Remo Ruffini, chairman and CEO of Moncler.
Moncler believes that the world right now is facing huge environmental and social changes, acting right now is the right way to go and it is very much important to go beyond whatever we have achieved in order to save the world from a catastrophic event.
All brands appreciated the move and say that it is something to look forward to but at the same time questioned it in detail. They also added that the problem with such sustainability plans is execution.
On an internal basis Moncler has set up three months and six months goals and there are specific groups which are working on the achievement of these as well as the budget allocations. Moreover, Moncler has said that they will on a yearly basis update the general public on the progress that these plans are making through its website.
