Blackpink Jennie Kim’s Stunning Jacquemus Debut in Capri

Blackpink’s Jennie Kim needed no more than black shades and a red towel to look chic pre Jacquemus show in Capri, Italy. Taking on the Brigitte Bardot role for Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 film “Le Mépris” Contempt, the K-pop star was seen in vignettes posted on Instagram a day before the catwalk. She was seen sprawled across the terracotta tiles, pacing up and down the rough coastal path of Capri, and gazing out to sea at Casa Malaparte-the house where the film was shot. For designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, Jennie played Bardot to his Godard, peppering his catwalk.

One of the highlights was Jennie’s runway debut. At 28 years of age, she closed the show in a minimalist, colorful halter dress paired with a turquoise shoulder bag and zebra-print heels. This is one on top of her being a singer, rapper, actor, and Chanel brand ambassador.

K-pop stars have become fashion darlings, where wearing an outfit of a luxury brand can command an audience of fans from around the world. In fact, fans often waited outside the venues just to get a glimpse of their favorite K-pop celebrities. But getting to this runway was no easy feat. Casa Malaparte, built on a cliff by writer Curzio Malaparte, has a view of the Gulf of Salerno and is accessible only by foot or boat.

Jacquemus, when he started his label 15 years ago, was enthralled by the house and by Godard’s “Le Mépris”. “It was a full circle moment,” said the brand. Celebrating the momentous occasion was the attendance of Dua Lipa. Models went up and down the house’s stairs in architectural shapes. Came out in outfits light, falling, and curving down the body, sensual.

He was inspired by “Le Mépris”. There is a designer noted for his love for scenic runways: one was dedicated to Versailles, remade through Princess Diana and Jacques Demy’s film “Peau d’Ane”. And once it was catalogued through “Donkey Skin”. Another had him present his work in the lavender fields of Provence for his 10th anniversary.

Jennie Kim’s debut at Jacquemus in Capri looked like a chic fashion movie wrapped in the most beautiful spectacle. This is how her appearance shows the growing influence of K-pop stars on today’s fashion. At this point, it seems like Jacquemus is always going to get his inspiration from film and scenery; he also keeps his shows a truly anticipated fashion staple.
