Nvidia Surpasses Apple, Becomes World’s Most Valuable Company Amid AI Boom: AI Demand Drives Nvidia’s Market Surge

Nvidia has claimed the title of the world’s most valuable company, surpassing Apple with a market capitalisation of $3.43 trillion compared to Apple’s $3.38 trillion. This milestone underscores Nvidia’s strength in the AI sector, where the demand for its AI-focused chips has propelled the semiconductor company to new heights. Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, attributes this remarkable growth to the surging interest in AI technology, particularly the popularity of its advanced GPUs and Hopper chip series, which power complex AI computations. With new developments, such as the anticipated Blackwell series, Nvidia aims to further enhance data centre performance and computing power for AI applications.

Nvidia reported a robust $30 billion in revenue for the quarter ending July 28, marking a 15% rise from the previous quarter and a staggering 122% increase year-over-year. For the third quarter, Nvidia expects revenue to reach approximately $32.5 billion, suggesting sustained momentum in the AI market. In the first half of fiscal 2025, Nvidia returned $15.4 billion to shareholders through buybacks and dividends, with an additional $7.5 billion reserved for repurchase.

AI Competition Intensifies Among Tech Giants

Nvidia’s achievement signals a shift in the competitive landscape of the tech industry, with AI emerging as a pivotal area. The company’s GPUs, specifically designed to meet the demands of AI tasks such as training language models and data processing, give Nvidia a unique advantage in the sector. While Apple continues to explore AI, focusing on consumer-friendly functions like the Apple Intelligence feature, Nvidia’s dedicated AI innovation keeps it at the forefront of the industry.

Microsoft, another tech giant, also remains a strong competitor in AI and cloud computing, holding a market cap of $3.06 trillion. Nvidia’s rise, however, underscores a changing tech hierarchy where specialised AI technology is increasingly valuable, reflecting AI’s importance in defining the next generation of computing and shaping the future of technology giants.
