Search engine Google has taken a new decision wherein it will now pay the Italian publishers for all the news that they use. This step has been taken by Google because the advertising revenue for the news agency was changed by Google and in order to facilitate the media, Google has decided to pay them for their news.
The agreement with the different media houses in Italy will be signed individually wherein they will get access to Google News where the users will select enriched content. This step will ensure that the media publishers do not feel cheated and are paid enough for all of their content.
A new platform will be launched by Google called the Google News Showcase, it will be a paid platform and would be available to the users who wish to buy it. Google plans on rolling out this program in Italy.
The CEO of Google Italy Fabio Vaccarono said
“These agreements represent an important step forward and confirm Google’s commitment to Italian publishers.”
Publishers such as RCS MediaGroup, Il Sole 24, Monrif, Citynews, Il Fogio, Il GGiornale and Il Tempo have already signed their agreements with Google.
This step will largely ensure that the quality of digital content is good and people can surf through enriched news columns and find appropriate articles. The print media is working alongside the digital one, but the fact that cannot be ignored is that digital media is attracting young minds and is being used by people all across the globe.
Even in Australia, in order to keep the quality of news and ensure good content to the people, Google had agreed to pay the news agencies for their content. This was after a long series of discussions with the Australian government on the passing of their new laws.
EU had also passed a set of directives wherein it had said that the publishers need to be paid for even the small snippets on the digital platforms showcasing their content. The French publishers were also keen on the same proposition.
