The entertainment streaming platform Disney Plus has hit an important milestone as it has now acquired more than 100 million subscribers just 16 months after the launch. The other big names like Netflix on the other hand took about 10 years to reach the same amount.
Needless to say, the market has changed greatly from then and more and more people enjoy the online streaming services. The subscribers per se in every dimension have increased manifold. The CEO of Disney Plus, Bob Chapek also remarked that they plan to keep up the pace and add a whopping 100 new titles to the streaming service every year.
It is an enormous success for the team at Disney Plus and their CEO remarked that this success has given them the motivation to work even harder, be ambitious and invest greater amounts into the streaming service to offer people with more quality content.
According to various reports, the main reason as to why Disney Plus acquired so many new subscribers in 16 months is because of the three main shows, namely the Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian, the insanely famous Marvel show WandaVision that has created a buzz all over social media and last but definitely not the least Raya and the Last Dragon.
Another entertainment brand has been launched within the Disney network namely Star that aims to cater the more adult and mature audiences and that went live towards the end of February. As of now, it is functional only in the United States but the services would be expanded to other nations as well.
When Disney Plus was launched, it was expected that it would acquire anywhere between 60 million to 90 million subscribers by the year 2024 but, they surpassed this and by what pace.
Disney Plus is surely proving to be a tough competition for all the other players in the market that have been trying hard to accumulate more and more subscribers. But with quality content, all these streaming services could do well in their own arena of content.
