While many countries in the world are reinforcing the lockdown and restrictions upon the movement of people, the government of South Africa has taken the decision of relaxing the norms on international travel.
Visitors from all countries of the world will be allowed in South Africa but stringent health and safety protocols will have to be followed. The President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa released a statement saying that these restrictions have been eased in order to facilitate the economy that had become stagnant given the pandemic.
All the people traveling will have to get tested beforehand and show a negative test result in order to be allowed in the country. Furthermore, South Africa is intensively testing its own population to limit the spread and curb the pandemic so that the lives of people can revert back to normal.
This decision of the government was welcomed by the local tourism industry given the blow that they had faced because of the severity of the pandemic. The foreign office however has advised everyone against unnecessary travel stating the second wave of the pandemic being witnessed across the globe. Prior to this, there were several travel restrictions placed in South Africa to limit the spread and to protect the population to as great an extent as possible.
The red-list or the countries that had the maximum number of cases had been completely banned for travel in the country and those countries were mostly those that had the maximum tourists. Therefore, a lot of the tourism sector was completely shut off with little or no incomes to sustain themselves.
Now this list has been scrapped and the government says that they have worked very hard and with a lot of determination for the sake of the continuation of the tourism industry. There is only one condition on the passengers that they need to get tested and show the negative results. The government officials urged everyone to now return to work for the larger good of all.
Hopefully, this step will help the tourism industry in its revival and it shall flourish again.
