After a period of sixteen years, the scientists have finally found an explanation for the occurrence of the spectacular blue ring Nebula.
The research on this had been underway since a long time, and it was made by public by the scientists on-board yesterday evening. The scientists are of the view that this fluorescent debris was a result of the collision that took place with a sun-like star possibly thousands of years ago.
This blue ring Nebula at the present moment surrounds a central star that is said to be approximately 6,000 light years away from our planet. It was sixteen years ago that the occurrence of this debris was come across by the astronomers.
This debris was discovered with the help of NASA’s Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) space telescope. From then onwards, there have been countless speculations trying to explain this strange phenomenon but none of them offered a reasonable one.
The scientists said, that up until now every time they felt that they had figured out this strange phenomenon, something new would come to light and hence the entire explanation would go haywire.
Mark Seibert said, that this is the scary part of being a scientist but at the same time he loves how unique this entire phenomenon is and how the entire team put in so much of an effort trying to explain the same.
This recent report that was released suggests that this blue ring surrounding the central star is nothing but two cone-shaped clouds made of molecular hydrogen extending away from the star on opposite sides making it glow.
The scientists also added that the merging of two starts is fairly common but to see what actually happened becomes a tedious and almost impossible task because they are obscured by a huge amount of dust as the ejecta from them expands and cools in space itself.
Time was of the essence here as if the scientists had turned late, they would never have been able to explain this phenomenon as the nebula will soon dissolve itself into the interstellar medium leaving the scientists in a daze.
