A new milestone has been achieved by the Reserve Bank of India by becoming the only monetary authority in the world with more than a million followers on twitter.
The Governor of the RBI, Shaktikanta Das tweeted his congratulations to all his colleagues and officially announced this proud moment. Although, RBI has much les monetary firepower it has beaten the most powerful central banks in the world to bring this achievement under its ambit.
The two most powerful banks of the world in terms of monetary funds: The U.S Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank also have twitter handles but there is a wide gap present between the number of followers on this microblogging platform.
This milestone also becomes more impressive as the bank itself is 85 years old but its twitter handle was created only in the year 2012 making this a huge achievement in a very short time span.
The second slot is taken by the central bank of Mexico which is not very known of. But there is a huge array of difference as the number of followers for the bank are 7.74 lakhs. Then comes the Bank of Indonesia with 7.57 lakh, then the most powerful bank in the world, The U.S Federal Reserve with 6.77 lakhs placing it at number four on this world-wide platform.
The second most powerful monetary authority in the world European Central Bank has 5.91 lakh followers whilst the third most powerful one, the Bank of Japan has only 28,900 followers in its belly.
Both the topmost authorities have had an active blogging account since the year 2009.
The sudden surge of followers has been seen only since the year 2019, before that there were only 3.42 lakh followers of the RBI.
The new financial year has seen an entire new wave of followers. Besides the official handle, the RBI also has another account, RBI Says to reach the common man.
A campaign has also been started to increase customer awareness and protect the gullible account holders from frauds.
