Significance of this Novel Addition
Venmo has announced the release of a new and exciting feature on its app entitled ‘Cash a Check’. This feature will be available to select customers and will facilitate the customers’ access to a quick, easy, and secure modality of cashing their stimulus checks. Payroll and government checks can be cashed through this novel feature.
Eligible customers who are hoping to receive their government stimulus checks in a few weeks, can use this feature to directly send the check to their Venmo accounts. Venmo also plans to waive all charges related to the cashing of stimulus checks for a limited period of time. Darrell Esch, SVP and GM of Venmo asserted, “We’re always looking for new ways to make it easier for our community to access and manage their money, especially as people continue to experience financial hardships amidst the global pandemic.” He further added, “We know that with health and safety top of mind for many, having a safe way to access stimulus payments is essential for many of our customers, especially those who are receiving paper checks and traditionally would have to visit a physical check-cashing location. By introducing the Venmo Cash a Check feature, we are not only enabling our customers to access their money quickly and safely from the comfort of their own homes but are also waiving all fees for cashing government issued checks to ensure customers can use their stimulus funds to pay for the things they need most.”
Simplifying the Process
The utility and significance of this feature is further enhanced as it allows users to cash their checks from the safety of their adobes. The process can be initiated with the eligible customer taking a picture of the check they wish to cash and consequently sending it for review using the Venmo app on a mobile device. The reviewing process will take a few seconds- in some cases a few minutes- however, after the process is completed, if the check stands approved, the money will be transferred to the user’s Venmo account directly within minutes. This truly simplifies the process of cashing the impending governmental stimulus checks.
