Women in the 21st century are breaking the status quo of gendered stereotypes and paving the path for a glorious future. Acing the business world with their ingenious approaches, women entrepreneurs are constantly exploring the hidden potentials of this arena. Dr. Nikkie Grover is one such trailblazer, who is redefining the avenues of success with her unmatched expertise, and talent. As the CEO of Eduwizer, Dr. Nikkie has crafted an inspiring legacy for women entrepreneurs across the world. Leveraging rich research, academic, and leadership experiences, she is committed to helping educational start-ups flourish and succeed. Under her astute guidance, Eduwizer was recognised as one of the top educators in the Femina Magazine’s April (2019) edition.
A Beacon of Inspiration
As a talented and hardworking individual from her initial days, Dr. Nikkie made commendable strides in her academic, and later professional career. With a BSc, B. ED, M. ED, and Doctorate in Counselling, she has conducted extensive research work on low performance of teachers that was highly appreciated by NCERT. Apart from being recruited as the youngest Head Mistress and Principal of a school, she had to take a brief hiatus from this role to care for her kids and family. However, this did not impede her growth in any way. While she vicariously looked after the domestic front, she also continued to spend time researching and writing. Her pieces highlighted how it was ok for women to take time off to care for the well-being of their loved ones. Through her writings, Dr. Nikkie aimed to shatter the image of a working woman as which is diametrically opposite to that of a home maker.
Women should build each other up. For it is only through mutual support that we can create a world that’s conducive to female empowerment – Dr. Nikkie Grover
She aimed to give the respect due to such home makers who have made the conscious choice of remaining at home to espouse the caregiving role. Her written pieces were widely appreciated by renowned women in business and were also featured in respected publications like the Times of India. Her pieces are essentially a testament to her general outlook of equality and support among women. She believes that women as a united front can conquer all obstacles and emerge victorious out of the most arduous battles.
Finding Niche Opportunities
Dr. Nikkie astute eye for business niches, coupled with her ingenious thinking allowed her to locate an essential, yet often negated aspect of significance in the educational arena. While consultancies catering to the diverse recruitment needs of educational institutions existed, there was a serious dearth of specialised organisations that could streamline senior position recruitments in this key domain. Acknowledging this lacuna, Dr. Nikkie crafted Eduwizer as the first consultancy that would competently handle the senior position recruitment needs of schools and colleges. While Eduwizer was born as a consultancy to cater to this pivotal need, it was also created to serve as a key advisory body for senior level officials in the educational sector seeking counselling while making important decisions.
Passion, empathy and a zeal to excel is what makes me the entrepreneur I am today – Dr. Nikkie Grover
From its role as a comprehensive consultancy agency that covers the recruitment and training of teachers as well as the setting up of schools and provision of legal advisory services, Dr. Nikkie transformed Eduwizer into a Pvt Ltd. enterprise in 2018, with a vision and mission for establishing a global footprint.
Empowering Women
Dr. Nikkie believes in creating a supportive ecosystem for women to flourish in all arenas of life, whether it be in the world of business or otherwise. She believes that as women we should focus on building each other up, rather than tearing our fellow travellers down. Through her relentless efforts as a member of the Women Empowerment Cell, she works to uplift women, helping them achieve their true potential. She works in close association with the founder of the organisation to brainstorm and implement strategies to help women facing issues like sexual harassment, abuse, violence, etc.
A Cause like No Other
Her sphere of influence is not solely limited to the educational arena as she works tirelessly to empower women through all her undertakings. During the course of her research work she was moved by the deplorable state of the girl child, especially in the rural regions of the country. This propelled her to vocalise her disdain for the abandonment of the girl child and work towards improving the adoption rates of female children and infants. She recognises the need for amendments in the stringent adoption laws in the country that will help simplify adoption procedures so that more people can save lives and give these children a loving home. Only when such changes are coupled with equally emancipatory and empathy-induced changes in the hearts of people, we can hope to see some tangible results.
Saving the Girl Child
As per records, the adoption numbers for female children remain abysmal as compared to their male counterparts. The persisting male child bias in the society has also fuelled the consistently high rates of such sex-selective abandonments. Abandoned female children are subjected to a harsh and discriminatory future of trafficking, bonded labour, starvation, and death. This is what inspired Dr. Nikkie to use her position as a strong female entrepreneur to improve the predicament of abandoned female children by spreading the message ‘to adopt a girl child, rather than abort her’. The idea is simple- if pedestrians find an abandoned girl child, they can bring her to a nearby orphanage to help save her future. Dr. Nikkie worked with Global Goodwill Ambassador organisation to help spread this message. Her efforts in this domain have earned her a nomination for the Global Goodwill Ambassador for Propagating Girl Child Adoption.
