Sunshine State Conference Postpones Fall Sports Season amid COVID-19

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA –The Sunshine State Conference President’s Council announces the postponement of all scheduled competitions in the fall sports season amid COVID-19 pandemic, with consideration of health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes and for those in their campus communities as their highest priority.

This contains men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball.

Fall competition plans for the spring sports of men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s golf, baseball, softball, and women’s rowing will also be postponed.

It will be planned no later than October 1, 2020, as to whether the winter sports of men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s swimming, and women’s swimming can compete in the fall 2020 semester.

Florida Tech Interim Athletic Director Pete Mazzone stated, “The decision to postpone competitions in the fall did not come easily.”

“As a university and a conference, that has a great passion for sports, we certainly feel for our coaches, staff and most importantly our student-athletes. We will, as a collective group, continue to remain positive and work hard knowing that one day soon we will be competing again.”

The conference is scheduling on conducting competition for the fall sports and the spring sports in the spring 2021 semester.

For the duration of the postponement of the competition, student-athletes will have the chance for conditioning, strength training, and other practice opportunities in all sports during the fall 2020 semester, provided health and safety conditions allow these activities.
