Queen’s University students now have Blank Space in their timetables and might be pleased to study the first of its kind entertainment law course which will be offered in the same year. This will be centring on pop culture’s favourite Tortured Poet, Taylor Swift.
Swift’s popularity is already seen by her economy boosting Eras Tour and now this is entering in the academic world. Notable Universities namely Harvard, Stanford and Berkeley are now going to offer courses on pop star in disciplines which include English, Political Science as well as Business. Queen’s University has already announced a course on Swift’s “Literary Legacy” in the year 2022.
Although, this new class has promised to be the first Swift focused law course in Canada, said Mohamed Khimji who is an associate dean of academic policy at Queen’s Law School who will be in charge of teaching the same in the month of September.
Khimji claims to be a Swiftie himself, and the corporate lawyer has now turned to be a law professor and said that he’s expecting enthusiasm from the students in class.
“I’m expecting a lot of enthusiasm and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “Taylor Swift would say, ‘I need to calm down.’”
In the class named Law (Taylor’s Version) they will be covering core concepts in entertainment law which include particularly contract, trademark and copyright law while making use of Swift’s many interactions with the legal system as case studies.
Along with all this, if anyone thinks that it will be an easy course, then Khimji says that won’t be the case and students can’t just expect a straight A.
“It’s a serious course,” Khimji states by adding “a very contemporary setting.”
He also said, “I started doing some research on Taylor’s other interactions with the legal system and decided that there was enough substance there for a course.”
