Hindalco Ranked as the Most Sustainable Aluminium Company in the World

The metal flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group of Companies, Hindalco (India) has been ranked as the most sustainable metal company in the world for the year 2020. This ranking is for the S&P Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) corporate assessment rankings (CSA).

There were around 61 industries being represented by India in different categories but only Hindalco managed to become an Industry Leader in this edition of the DJSI rankings.

The managing director of Hindalco Industries Ltd issues a statement on Wednesday evening where he stated that getting such a ranking and becoming an industry leader is a profound affirmation to the commitment that they have towards the three Rs in their business model (Resilient, Responsible and Reliable).

Hindalco managed to get a significant lead over the other industries in the average score by getting 75 points as against the average of 51 points.

The company issued another statement as well in which it stated that in all dimensions, that is, of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), the company managed to get a 100 percentile in the DJSI CSA rankings which is quite remarkable.

A number of dimensions like climate strategy, customer relationships, influence of the policy, human capital, water conservation policies are given due consideration in the rankings.

Last year, Hindalco had an average score of 60 and this year has grown by leap and bounds which according to them indicates that they have embarked on the correct journey and are on the right path. These rankings have also managed to inspire everyone at Hindalco to keep accelerating at this journey and stop at nothing.

Hindalco has also tied up with a number of cement manufacturers to shift to red-mud as against mined resources which are harmful for the environment. Hindalco is the very first country in the world to shift to this approach.
