Thom Browne Creates a Fantastical Bird-Themed Origami World on the Runway

Thom Browne’s fall/winter 2025 collection captivated audiences with an awe-inspiring display of artistry. The designer transformed a darkened Manhattan theater into a dreamy landscape filled with 2,000 delicate white origami birds. Suspended in mid-air, they created an enchanting atmosphere that perfectly complemented Browne’s visionary fashion show.

The runway opened with bird sounds and poetry, including Emily Dickinson’s “Hope is the Thing with Feathers.” Music with ornithological themes heightened the experience. As the models walked, the audience witnessed a fusion of classic tailoring and whimsical details. Vibrant bird motifs in satin stitch and gold bullion embroidery adorned jackets and coats, adding a bold touch to Browne’s meticulously crafted suits and outerwear.

The front row glittered with stars. Oscar nominee Adrien Brody sat beside fashion icon Anna Wintour. Actors Morgan Spector and Rebecca Hall attended together. Celebrities like Cara Delevingne, musician St. Vincent, and actors Cristin Milioti, Alessandro Nivola, and Cole Escola added to the event’s allure.

Browne’s storytelling was as compelling as his designs. The show followed two caged lovebirds longing for freedom. Two “ornithologists” in signature gray Thom Browne uniforms observed them. This poetic narrative unfolded as models graced the runway in textured tweeds, plaids, checks, and flannels. Deconstructed silhouettes and exaggerated shapes showcased expert tailoring and artistic craftsmanship.

Among the 64 looks, fanciful dresses, voluminous petticoats, and grand ball skirts stole the spotlight. A brown varsity jacket featuring the number “65” paid tribute to Browne’s birth year. Accessories stood out, including Browne’s signature Hector bag, inspired by his beloved canine companion.

The grand finale carried a heartfelt tradition. Browne, known for his romantic runway gestures, presented a Valentine’s bouquet of white flowers to his partner, Andrew Bolton. This touching moment resonated with the monochrome origami theme, reinforcing the designer’s keen eye for detail.

Browne’s fall/winter 2025 collection blended fantasy with reality, showcasing his mastery in couture storytelling. The bird-inspired theme, intricate embroidery, and imaginative tailoring cemented his status as a fashion visionary.
